Why act fast
on bed bugs
Bed bugs bite at night, hide during the day and travel in clothing, bags and furniture. They settle first near the person sleeping, then spread through the bedroom, then to other rooms. The sooner you act, the simpler the treatment.
A growing population
A female lays about 200 eggs in her lifetime, at a rate of 2 to 4 a day. These white eggs, about 1 mm long, hatch in 6 to 17 days, often well hidden in seams and cracks.
They can wait
A bed bug can survive several weeks, and up to 18 months, without a meal. Leaving your home empty for a few days won’t solve anything: they have to be treated where they hide.
Hard to spot at first
A bite can take up to 14 days to appear, and some people don’t react at all. You can have bed bugs for a while without knowing it.

Bed bug, flea or boxelder bug?
Our guide covers the appearance, life cycle and signs of bed bugs to help you confirm what you found.
Our bed bug
treatment method
Bed bug treatment works when everyone does their part. The technician confirms the infestation, gives you a clear preparation checklist, treats the hiding spots and comes back to check the result.
Inspection
We confirm that they really are bed bugs and locate their hiding spots: mattress seams, box spring, headboard, night tables, baseboards and electrical outlets.
Preparation
Bedding and clothes washed in hot water, dried on high heat for at least 30 minutes, then stored in sealed bags. Furniture is moved away from the walls.
Treatment
Targeted treatment of cracks and hiding spots. You leave your home for at least 6 hours, or 24 hours with a baby under one or if you’re pregnant.
Follow-up
Not every egg is reached the first time. The follow-up visit targets the bed bugs that hatched since, and we confirm the result before you put your bedding and clothes back.
Goal: eliminate the infestation and confirm it at the follow-up
Why bug bombs
aren’t enough

How do I know if I have bed bugs?
The most common signs: itchy bites in the morning, often in a line or a cluster on parts of the body left uncovered during sleep, and tiny black spots (droppings) on the sheets, mattress or box spring. Also look for live or dead bed bugs, shed skins and whitish eggs in the mattress seams and around the bed.
Adults are brown, oval and flat, 4 to 7 mm long, about the size of an apple seed. Bites can take up to 14 days to appear, and some people don’t react at all.
Are bed bugs dangerous to your health?
They don’t transmit disease. Bites mostly cause itching: try not to scratch to prevent infection, and see a doctor if you have blisters, swelling or significant redness. An infestation can also disrupt sleep and cause anxiety: if it’s weighing on you, Info-Social 811 offers free phone support, 24 hours a day.
I’m a tenant: who should call the exterminator?
Notify your landlord at the first signs, without trying to solve the problem on your own. It’s up to the landlord to call a qualified exterminator without delay and give them access to the whole building. In Montreal, if the landlord doesn’t act, call 311.
How do I prepare my home before the treatment?
Wash bedding and clothes in hot water (at least 60 °C), then dry them on high heat for at least 30 minutes. Store them in sealed bags until the treatment is over. Empty the night tables, move furniture away from the walls, vacuum and throw the contents out in a sealed bag.
Avoid moving items to other rooms or to relatives’ homes: you could spread the bed bugs. The technician gives you the complete checklist, adapted to your home.
Do I need to throw out my mattress?
Not necessarily. A mattress in good condition can be steam-cleaned, then enclosed in a bed bug cover. If it’s damaged and has to go, make it unusable by slashing the fabric, then wrap it in thick, well-sealed plastic before taking it out, so you don’t infest your neighbours or whoever picks it up.
How many treatments are needed, and how much does it cost?
Several treatments are often needed, usually 10 to 14 days apart, with at least one follow-up check. On treatment day, you need to leave your home for at least 6 hours: 12 hours for children and people with allergies or breathing problems, and 24 hours for babies under one year, toddlers who aren’t walking yet and pregnant women.
The price depends on the size of your home and the extent of the infestation: the final price is set on site, after the inspection. Call us at 1·888·582·2191.
