Why you shouldn’t tackle
a nest yourself
A single nest can hold hundreds, even thousands, of wasps, and some species are more aggressive than others. Trying to fight wasps on your own can be very dangerous. An exterminator has the right equipment for every situation and can reach visible and hidden nests, wherever they are.
Paper nests or ground nests
Quebec has about fifteen species of yellowjackets and hornets, plus paper wasps, that hide in paper nests (eaves, picnic tables, etc.) or in the ground, often in abandoned burrows.
Mass stinging
Wasps are social insects that protect their nest by stinging in large numbers, which can be dangerous. Only females have a stinger.
The right time to act
Ideally, the nest should be removed in spring, when it is much smaller and holds fewer of these flying insects.

Wasp, hornet or bee?
Wasps have a long, slender body with a narrow waist, while bees have a rounder, hairier body. Our guides cover each species.
Wasp nest:
the extermination
After assessing the surroundings and the situation, the exterminator injects an insecticide into the nest. The product eliminates the colony, then the nest is removed once all activity has stopped.
Assessment
Situation analysis: type of nest, location, presence of pets or other non-target species.
Nest injection
The products used are biological, so they respect the environment and, above all, non-target species such as pets.
Nest removal
Well protected against the spray, the exterminator removes the nest wherever it is located.
Assessment and prevention
The professional makes sure every wasp has been eliminated and gives you preventive recommendations to avoid new infestations.
Result: complete, lasting elimination

How do you get rid of wasps?
Identification: first make sure they really are wasps. Find the nest: if you see a lot of wasps around your house, a nest is probably close by, in the ground, under the roof or inside the walls. Don’t act alone: wasps protect their nest by stinging in large numbers. Call professionals who are equipped to handle nests safely. Prevention: seal potential entry points and avoid leaving food outside.
Which wasps sting?
Most wasp species can sting if they feel threatened. Only females have a stinger. The German, common and eastern yellowjackets are among the most widespread near homes and sting if their nest is disturbed. The European hornet is generally less aggressive but will sting if threatened. The paper wasp, which builds open nests, is less aggressive but stings if disturbed.
Why do wasps fly around us?
Smells: perfume, lotions, food and sweet drinks. Nest defence: they become aggressive when they sense a threat to their colony. Colours and movement: bright clothing or quick movements. Stay calm: sudden movements make a wasp more likely to sting.
In which month do wasps die?
Their activity starts in spring, peaks in late summer and drops as the cold arrives in fall. Most wasps die in late fall, with the first hard frosts. Only fertilized queens survive by hibernating in a safe, sheltered spot.
How should you behave around a wasp?
Avoid sudden movements, don’t shout or run, move away slowly, avoid perfume and bright clothing, and cover your food. If you are stung and not allergic, clean the area with soap and water and apply a cold compress. If you are allergic, use your epinephrine auto-injector at the first sign of a reaction, then call 911.
Can I remove a wasp nest myself?
We don’t recommend it. When a nest is disturbed, wasps defend it as a group, and each wasp can sting several times. The risk is higher for anyone allergic to stings, for children, and when the nest is hidden in a wall or in the ground, where you can’t see how big it is. Store-bought sprays often don’t reach the inside of the nest, so the colony survives. Keep your distance and call us: our technician treats the nest safely and removes it when possible. If someone has trouble breathing after a sting, call 911 right away.
How much does nest removal cost?
The price depends on where the nest is and how easy it is to reach. The final price is set on site. Call us at 1·888·582·2191.
